Use of PHMB Foam Range with Raponic Technology in the Treatment of a Burn Injury

A 90-year-old woman who presented with an accidental scald burn. Past medical history of COPD with oxygen therapy at home.

  • Day One

    Pain score VAS 10

    The wound already has blister formations and with serous exudates. High risk of infection. Management: • Cleansing of the wound • Removal of the exudates and deroofing of the blisters. Applied PHMB Foam dressings (non-adhesive)

  • Day Five

    Pain score VAS 4

    Wound is progressing, exudates levels starting to reduce to moderate, erythema present but surround skin intact. Infection risk reduced. Management: • Cleansing and re application of PHMB dressings

  • Day Eight

    Pain score VAS 0

    No signs and symptoms of infection, granulating tissue with greatly reduced erythema. Exudate levels reduced further to moderate to low. Management: • Cleansers • Silicone Foam applied as antimicrobial foam no longer required.
