A Clinical Review of PHMB Foam Range with Raponic Technology for Lower Limb Ulcer Treatment

An 89-year-old woman was under the care of the community within the UK with a venous leg ulcer. On presentation to the wound clinic the patient had a wound on the left lateral aspect of her lower leg of 3 years duration. Her past medical history was osteoporosis, MRSA, seizures, cataract surgery and a fractured pelvis.

  • Initial Assessment

    Pain score VAS 8

    Initial assessment found the wound to be 2cm length and 1.5cm in width, with a high level of exudate. 90% slough and 10% granulation tissue wound showed clinical signs of infection ActivHeal® PHMB Non-Adhesive Foam was used.

  • Week Three

    Pain score VAS 2

    Significant progress in pain and also wound progression. Reduction in size 1.8cm length 0,5cm width. Reduction in the clinical signs of infection. Peri wound skin is intact and exudate levels starting to reduce.

  • Week Four

    Pain score VAS 0

    Improvement with continued reduction in size and exudate levels No clinical signs of infection as a result ActivHeal® PHMB Adhesive foam was discontinued as an antimicrobial foam was no longer required.
